Commissioner Says Bloc Should Invest €500bn In New Nuclear Plants By 2050
The EU’s commissioner for the internal market, Thierry Breton, said the bloc will need to invest €500bn in new nuclear energy facilities by 2050, according to an interview published by the French newspaper Journal du Dimanche on Sunday.

“Existing nuclear plants alone will need €50bn of investment from now until 2030. And new generation ones will need 500 billion,” he said in the interview. “This effort represents around €20bn a year.”

Mr Breton said nuclear power will play a “fundamental role” in meeting Europe’s energy demands.
