Polish nuclear developer SGE’s UK subsidiary (SGE SMR UK) and Canadian company Origin Nuclear have signed a letter of intent to establish a joint venture that would operate a planned fleet of 14 small modular reactors (SMRs) with a combined capacity of 4.2 GW in the UK.

SGE UK said in a statement that the joint venture with Origin Nuclear, a subsidiary of Canadian power company and nuclear operator Ontario Power Generation (OPG), will use GE Vernova Hitachi’s (GVH) BWRX-300 reactor technology.

The statement said Origin Nuclear will support the licensing process, commissioning and preparations for reactor operation. Its responsibilities will also include operating the plants and providing centralised support services across the fleet.
