Bulgaria has invited Slovenia to become part of the project to build up to two new units at the Kozloduy nuclear power station, the Bulgarian government said.

Bulgarian prime minister Nikolai Denkov issued the invitation to his Slovenian counterpart Robert Golob during a meeting on the sidelines of the 18th Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia.

Denkov told Golob that Slovenia should be involved in the Kozloduy project either as a buyer of electricity or as an investor.

We are tying this project to a long-term energy demand forecast that covers the period at least until 2050,” Denkov said.

“It shows that the two new reactors, combined with extending the lives of the existing ones, will be sufficient to provide baseload power until we decide how to develop our energy after the middle of the century.”
