Bulgaria’s grid operator ESO (Electricity System Operator) has prepared scenarios for the potential integration in the electric system of generation capacities from up to four new nuclear power units, two at the existing Kozloduy site and two from a proposed new site at Belene, according to the company’s chief executive Angelin Tsatchev.

Tsachev told the Bulgarian Atomic Forum (Bulatom) annual conference in Varna earlier this month that his company has looked at the possibility to integrate more than 2,000 MW from Kozloduy in northwest Bulgaria and more than 2,000 MW from Belene, about 150 km further to the east.
