The transition of the Zaporizhzhia-5 nuclear power plant in Ukraine to cold shutdown while moving Zaporizhzhia-4 to hot shutdown has been completed, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed.
The agency’s director-general Rafael Grossi said the change in reactor status is so maintenance staff can carry out activities at Unit 5 that are only possible in cold shutdown.
Unit 5 was moved into cold shutdown on 28 July, three days after Unit 4 shifted to hot shutdown, with its steam now being used to treat wastewater at the six-unit facility. The other units remain in cold shutdown.
