International Atomic Energy Agency staff have carried out additional inspections at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station without observing any heavy military equipment, explosives or mines – but they are still awaiting access to the rooftops of the reactor buildings.
IAEA director-general Rafael Grossi said on Thursday (20 July) that following their visits to Units 1 and 3 at the six-unit station earlier in July, the IAEA staff went to the reactor building of Unit 2 on 17 July and Unit 4 the following day.
In each case, the team checked the main control room, reactor hall, spent fuel pool, emergency control room, rooms where electrical cabinets of the safety systems are located, and the turbine hall.
