US-based Westinghouse Electric Company has extended a front-end engineering and design (Feed) study contract with Bulgaria’s Kozloduy NPP-Newbuild (KNPP-Newbuild) for the proposed deployment of two AP1000 reactor units at the existing Kozloduy site.
Westinghouse said the extension “builds on the progress being made” on the Kozloduy expansion project and the support the US company is providing for nuclear fuel diversification and operations at Kozloduy.
Westinghouse signed the contract for the Feed study in June 2023. The study will assess Bulgarian industry capabilities and the existing infrastructure at the Kozloduy site, which has two commercially operational Russia-designed VVER-1000 pressurised water reactor (PWR) units.
