UK Regulator To Prosecute Over ‘Information Technology Security Offences’
The Sellafield site is one of the largest and most hazardous nuclear facilities in Europe.

The UK’s nuclear energy regulator has notified state-owned Sellafield Ltd that it will be prosecuted for alleged information technology security offences during a four-year period between 2019 and early 2023.

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) said there is no suggestion that public safety has been compromised as a result of these issues.

The decision to begin legal proceedings follows an investigation by the ONR.

A statement said details of the first court hearing will be announced when available.

The statement added: “Given that some matters are now subject to legal proceedings, we are unable to comment further.”
