The delayed final investment decision (FID) for the planned Sizewell C nuclear power station in eastern England will take place once the government completes its financial review for the next three years, a UK government nuclear power advisor told NucNet.
The FID for the station, the next large nuclear generating facility planned in the UK after Hinkley Point C, was delayed from 2024 because of a July general election and a lack of immediate interest on behalf of private sector investors in taking an equity stake in the facility from the UK government, according to multiple UK press reports.
Sizewell C is currently owned 77% by the UK government and 23% by EDF Energy, the UK subsidiary of French state nuclear power company EDF. The French company has long said that it does not want to own more than 20% of the Sizewell C plant.
