Russia’s state nuclear power corporation Rosatom said that construction of Unit 1 of Turkey’s Akkuyu power station is now 99% complete, and “everything is being done “to ensure that first power is generated this year.
The news was confirmed during a visit to the facility by Rosatom director-general Alexey Likhachev and Turkish minister of energy and natural resources, Alparslan Bayraktar.
Rosatom also said in a statement that 65% of the commissioning work was complete.
Likhachev confirmed the growing readiness for the plant to enter into operations, with a stable connection to the Turkish power grid now up and running.
