Swedish nuclear owner and operator OKG AB has worked to improve the safety of the Oskarshamn-3 nuclear power reactor in recent years, but there have also been a number of shortcomings at the facility, the country’s nuclear regulator said.

The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) said it had noted shortcomings both in terms of the status of the facility and within OKG’s organisation.

It said a regular overall safety assessment covering the period from March 2024 to January 2026 concluded that radiation safety at OKG was “acceptable”. This, however, was a lower level than in the previous assessment.

SSM said it noted that OKG has taken measures during the period to operate the facility in a radiation-safe manner and that the focus on safety has increased.
