Sweden aims to attract more players to build new nuclear in the country by streamlining its licensing process and opening up its coastline to build capacity in the sector, the government announced.

Unveiling a host of measures to bolster nuclear, Romina Pourmokhtari, minister of climate and environment, said that a central part of new measures was “to review the licensing process so that more actors with different prerequisites would have the opportunity to build new nuclear in Sweden”.

She said that a new licensing process for new nuclear installations would be more “fit for purpose, more predictable and flexible”.
