Sweden’s national nuclear power coordinator has said that interest in tapping the financing established in the government’s 2026 budget to meet the country’s goal of having 2,500 MW of new nuclear capacity by 2035 already outstrips the target.
Writing in an interim report published earlier this month, Carl Berglöf said the country’s budget for 2026 had presented the financial frameworks for an expansion roughly in line with the government’s goal of 2,500 MW of new nuclear power capacity by 2035.
“The nuclear power coordinator has through stakeholder dialogues noted a collective interest in accessing this financing that exceeds 2,500 MW,” Berglöf said in the report.
By 2045 the government’s target is to have expansion of up to 1,000 MW.
