Australia’s ruling Labor has unexpectedly launched a parliamentary inquiry into nuclear power, which it hopes will expose shortcomings in the opposition’s plans for significant deployment as soon as 2035.

The opposition Coalition said it is ready to “come to the party” and put forward its arguments in favour of nuclear.

Labor, the Coalition and crossbench MPs will nominate members of the committee, due to report back no later than 30 April 2025.
