Poland has announced a set of initiatives aimed at strengthening its nuclear energy sector, including the formation of two government advisory bodies and the launch of a nuclear competence centre.
At a press conference in Warsaw, industry minister Marzena Czarnecka and deputy minister Wojciech Wrochna, who is also government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, outlined the government’s strategy to boost local participation and regulatory preparedness as it prepares its first commercial nuclear power station project.
The first of the two newly established advisory teams will focus on ensuring the participation of domestic firms in the construction of the first nuclear station, a three-unit facility near the villages of Lubiatowo and Kopalino on the country’s Baltic coast. The team will include representatives from industry bodies, financial institutions and the public sector, and will be chaired by Wrochna.
