Poland’s state-controlled utility Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) has signed a preliminary conditional agreement to acquire full ownership of PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa, the joint venture planning a new nuclear power station at Patnow, near the city of Konin in central Poland.

PGE said the deal covers the purchase of ZE PAK’s 50% stake in the company. Once completed, PGE will become the sole shareholder of the venture, which was created in 2023 to oversee the potential deployment of South Korea’s APR-1400 pressurised water reactor technology at the existing Patnow coal-fired power site.

According to PGE, the transaction will be finalised once the company obtains ministerial approval, as required under Poland’s nuclear investment law.
