Poland is planning to choose the site for its second commercial nuclear power station next year at the earliest with four possible sites being considered, all in coal-producing regions.

Deputy industry minister Wojciech Wrochna said in an interview with Warsaw-based business daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna that the four options are Bełchatow and Konin in central Poland, Kozienice in eastern Poland and Polaniec in the southeast of the country.

In comments to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Wrochna suggested Belchatow and Konin were the favoured sites with Kozienice and Polaniec “additional” sites.

Wrochna’s comments came amid news reports that Warsaw will release an updated version of its nuclear power programme in the coming days.
