The state-owned developer overseeing deployment of Poland’s first commercial nuclear power station is expecting to begin preparatory work this year for the first plant.

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) said site preparations at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in the Baltic province of Pomerania will include securing land for the plant, conducting geodetic surveys and clearing vegetation.

Geological studies, which started in 2024, will continue both on land and offshore to assess conditions for the plant’s planned cooling system.

The statement said the first phase of geological studies, in an area of approximately 40 hectares, has already confirmed that the soil conditions at site do not pose an obstacle to the plant’s safe operation and provide important information for the ongoing power plant design process.
