The operation of the Olkiluoto-3 nuclear power plant and a national desire to end energy imports from Russia have strengthened support for nuclear power in Finland with a record 68% in favour and only 6% against, a survey has shown.

Industry group Finnish Energy said support for nuclear power has been measured continuously since 1983 and is now higher than at any other time in the history of the survey.

According to the survey, 68% of respondents are in favour of nuclear power with 31% of that total completely in favour and 37% mainly in favour. The number of respondents who have a negative attitude towards nuclear power has further decreased from the previous years. This year, only 6% had a negative attitude towards nuclear power with 1% totally negative and 5% mainly negative.
