Six areas in the US state of Arkansas could be candidates for future nuclear power development with reactors “feasible and advisable”, according to a report.

The 533-page report, conducted by Maryland- based Excel Services Corporation, said the six areas are Flint Creek in Benton County; the existing Arkansas Nuclear One (Ano) nuclear power station site in Pope County; Central Arkansas, including areas south and southwest of Little Rock; Southwest Arkansas near Camden; Phillips County near West Helena; and Craighead County in northeast Arkansas.

The report noted that sites in the east and northeast parts of the state would require additional review due to their proximity to the New Madrid seismic zone.

The study, commissioned by the Joint Committee on Energy of the Arkansas General Assembly, has been presented to Arkansas lawmakers.
