Japan-based engineering and manufacturing company IHI Corporation has received an order from Westinghouse for engineering and early procurement work on the reactor containment vessel and CA01 large steel module for Unit 1 of Poland’s first nuclear power station, the company said.

Poland’s planned nuclear project at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino in the northern province of Pomerania will have three Westinghouse AP1000 pressurised water reactor units, expected to come online between 2036 and 2038.

The order follows a decision by Poland’s state nuclear company Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ) in October to allow Westinghouse to begin procuring components with long manufacturing times for the first AP1000 unit.
