Poland’s state nuclear company Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) has submitted an application to the head of the province of Pomerania (Pomorskie Voivodeship) for a construction permit covering early works for the construction of Poland’s first nuclear power station.

PEJ said this phase of work will include earthworks to prepare the site where three Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear units will be built. Work will include major infrastructure such the onshore section of the facility’s cooling channels.

It will cover the excavation of deep trenches, the stabilisation of their walls, and the implementation of measures to protect the trenches from groundwater inflow.
