Eleven EU countries have called on the bloc to take full account of “all fossil-free energy sources” when deciding energy and climate policies, according to a joint statement issued on Tuesday (19 December) by the French-led Nuclear Alliance.
Countries taking part in Tuesday’s alliance meeting – Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and France – called for a “root-and-branch review” of the EU’s climate and energy policy framework.
The 11 countries said the EU must fully “fully acknowledge the contribution of all fossil-free energy sources” including nuclear to the bloc’s objective of halving emissions by 2030 and reaching climate neutrality by mid-century.
