South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility has signed an agreement to begin preparations for the manufacturing of core components to be used in US reactor developer X-energy’s advanced small modular reactors (SMRs).

The power equipment supply company said the agreement was “a pre-emptive move” taken to secure its forgings, key materials required for SMR manufacturing

The agreement was signed on 11 December in Washington in a ceremony attended by Doosan Enerbility president Kim Jong-du and X-energy president Clay Sell.

Doosan Energy said the mid- to large-sized forgings require a long production lead time. Follow-up agreements are expected on beginning the manufacturing of the forgings and other modules.
