The construction licence for the Paks 2 nuclear power station project in Hungary is likely to be issued in the autumn of 2021, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom said.

According to Rosatom, which is supplying two two Generation III+ VVER-1200 pressurised water reactors for the project, preparatory site work will begin in the first half of 2021.

The comments followed a working visit to Budapest by Rosatom director-general Alexei Likhachev, who met Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban. Rosatom said the two sides discussed the Paks-2 nuclear power plant project and said it is on schedule.
