Commission Offers €132 Million For Research Including Small Modular Reactors
The European Commission had adopted plans that support nuclear researchers with €132m ($143m) in funding on offer for work on the safety of small modular reactors, the development of nuclear materials and the secure management and disposal of radioactive waste.

The Euratom* work programme 2023-2025 is part of the Euratom Research and Training Programme, which funds nuclear research and training.

The new work programme will also provide support to the international nuclear fusion materials irradiation facility IFMIF-Dones. The construction phase for the facility, in Granada, Spain, began on 16 March 2023.

The main goal of the planned facility is to study properties of materials under severe irradiation in a neutron field similar to the one in a fusion reactor first wall.
