US enrichment company Centrus Energy and microreactor developer Radiant have signed a contract for the supply of high-assay low-enriched uranium (Haleu) fuel for multiple Kaleidos microreactors, a statement said.

According to the statement, Centrus is expected to begin delivering Haleu before the end of the decade.

Centrus said the agreement includes prepayments from Radiant to Centrus to support Centrus’ programme to build out domestic commercial enrichment capacity.

Radiant said the contract adds another domestic US source of Haleu as it moves from its first Kaleidos test towards commercial and national security deployments.

“You can’t deploy nuclear reactors without fuel, so we have approached our fuel supply the same way we have approached the reactor: build it in parallel, and don’t depend on any single path,” said Rita Baranwal, chief nuclear officer of Radiant.

The companies said the HALEU supplied by Centrus would “unobligated”, meaning it will be a US-origin fuel not subject to foreign-use restrictions, allowing it to be also used for national security applications. Haleu is uranium enriched to levels between 5% and 20% U-235.

Centrus said its AC100 centrifuge design is the only deployment-ready US-origin technology available for unobligated enrichment.

Centrus won a contract from the US Department of Energy in 2019 to build a cascade of advanced centrifuges at its Piketon enrichment plant in Ohio to demonstrate Haleu production with US technology. The first new capacity is expected to come online at Piketon by 2029.

Radiant is developing the Kaleidos transportable microreactor for remote locations, data centres, defence applications and other commercial and industrial uses. California-based company was selected by the DOE among 10 others under a 2025 reactor pilot programme.

In April 2025, the DOE shortlisted Radiant as one of five companies for the first round of conditional Haleu (high-assay low-enriched uranium) allocations. The allocations aim to pull from existing DOE and National Nuclear Security Administration stockpiles to support near-term advanced reactor demonstrations.

Radiant has been selected for US military programmes including a proposed deployment at Buckley Space Force Base and the US Army’s Janus microreactor programme.
