Canada-based uranium miner Cameco and Anglo-German-Dutch enrichment company Urenco have signed agreements with Westinghouse Electric Company as part of a supply chain to support Bulgaria’s energy diversification objectives for its Kozloduy nuclear power station and for the delivery of services to meet the nuclear fuel needs of Unit 5 at the site in the north of the country.*
Cameco said it signed a 10-year deal for the supply of natural uranium hexafluoride (UF6) for Kozloduy-5. The contract, running from 2024 through 2033, will include the delivery of about 2.2 million KgU (kilograms of elemental uranium) as UF6, or equivalent of about 5.7 million pounds of U3O8 uranium concentrate.
The company’s chief executive Tim Gitzel said this is Cameco’s first deal to supply uranium to fuel Bulgaria’s nuclear energy sector.
