Polish state-owned nuclear project company Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ) said it had received 26 preliminary offers from banks supporting the debt financing of the country’s first nuclear power station, with the total amount several times greater than the required debt capital.
PEJ said that a consultation period over the last quarter of the year with over 30 banks from Europe, Asia and North America showed firm investment interest in the project on the country’s Baltic coast that is set for operation in 2036 deploying three Westinghouse AP1000 reactor units.
The support from banks follows a statement this week from the European Commission giving its approval for public aid estimated at PLN 60 billion (€14.2bn, $16.5bn).
