Argentina’s Embalse nuclear power plant has begun a planned outage 24 months after the previous one, up from the usual 18-month cycle, in a change state-owned operator Nucleoeléctrica said will increase generating time while maintaining safety standards.

The 656-MW pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR), in Córdoba province, central Argentina, came offline on 2 October after the evening peak demand period and is scheduled to return to the grid in late November.

The extension represents an increase of more than 33% in the interval between planned outages.
