US Announces $4.2 Billion Investment To Boost Nuclear Power In Pennsylvania And Ohio

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a conditional loan commitment of up to $4.2bn (€3.7bn) to finance nuclear uprates and modernisation across Texas-based power company Vistra’s nuclear fleet in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

The DOE said the initiative will deliver more reliable energy, strengthen the grid, lower costs, and meet growing power demand.

Vistra supplies power to the biggest US grid, operated by PJM Interconnection, which stretches from Illinois to Washington, DC, and serves about 67 million people. PJM is struggling to meet surging demand from data centres, reports said.
