The US is failing to scale up a supply chain that will be required to service a growing fleet of new nuclear energy and must coordinate better to standardise manufacturing, a report from the Nuclear Scaling Initiative (NSI) shows.

The report, covering Generation III and IV reactor designs, said that the US nuclear industry was stuck in a market paralysis where by suppliers and manufacturers are unwilling to make long-term capital investment without multi-unit demand signals.

And at the same time, utilities and other energy offtakers hesitated to make firm commitments in the absence of cost certainty, a lack of fixed schedule and a proven supply chain.
