Canadian investment company Brookfield Asset Management has welcomed the new strategic framework agreement between the US and South Korea to support the deployment of Westinghouse technology in the US.

The framework agreement commits up to $120bn (€106bn) of investment by South Korea to help finance the construction of eight large nuclear reactors in the US, including six Westinghouse AP1000 reactors and two South Korean APR1400 reactors which also incorporate Westinghouse technology.

Brookfield is majority owner of Westinghouse with 51%. The other 49% stake is owned by Canada-based uranium company Cameco.
