The US Department of the Air Force (DAF) has selected three nuclear reactor manufacturers to develop microreactors for three air bases as part of efforts to support energy needs.

The DAF said that under its Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations Initiative (ANPI), it had selected Radiant Industries to install its technology at the Buckley Space Force Base in Colorado.

Meanwhile, Westinghouse Government Services was chosen for the installation of a microreactor at the Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana.

Since the DAF announced those two air force bases as microreactor sites earlier in April, it also added a third site at the Joint Base San Antonio in Texas. This site would deploy technology from Antares Nuclear, DAF confirmed.
