Poland’s climate ministry has published for public consultation a draft resolution by the Council of Ministers on approving an updated version of the country’s nuclear power programme, the first version of which was published in 2014.

The ministry said the aim of the programme is to build from 6,000 to 9,000 MW of installed nuclear capacity based on proven, large-scale, pressurised water nuclear reactors of Generation III and III+ design.

“Since the adoption of the first version of the programme in 2014, the rationale for implementing nuclear power has not changed,” the ministry said. “It is based on three pillars: energy security, climate and environment, and economy.”

Comments on the updated document can be submitted until 21 August, the ministry said.
