The energy committee of Ukraine’s parliament has voted in favour of a draft bill that will allow state-owned nuclear champion Energoatom to buy reactor equipment from Bulgaria for the potential completion of the Khmelnitski-3 and -4 nuclear plants, construction of which is currently suspended.
The bill, published on the parliament’s official portal, said Energoatom is granted “permission to conclude a contract” with Bulgaria’s state-owned energy company NEK for the purchase of reactor pressure vessels and related equipment necessary for the “future construction” of the two Khmelnitski units.
Energoatom will also be allowed to negotiate contract conditions, make payments in accordance with contractual terms and store the equipment, the bill said.
