A UK parliamentary committee has called for more clarity from the government on its plans for new nuclear power plants and said a decision is needed on new reactors at “the flagship sites” of Oldbury and Wylfa.
The Commons Energy Security and Net Zero Committee said Oldbury said Oldbury and Wylfa have the potential to “truly accelerate new nuclear in the UK”.
The committee called for the government’s nuclear delivery arm Great British Energy-Nuclear (GBE-N) to announce its plans for the sites – which it owns – without further delay, including which technologies it intends to deploy.
It said the government needs to be clearer about what nuclear infrastructure it wants built, whereabouts, and on what timeline. GBE-N should clarify its role in supporting deployment and, in particular, confirm its intentions for Oldbury, in southwest England, and Wylfa, north Wales.
