UK-Based Zodiac To Explore Options For Reactor-Powered Vessels
A number of projects have begun to assess nuclear reactors as a way of decarbonising the shipping industry.

London-based ship management company Zodiac Maritime is teaming up with classification society Lloyd’s Register to explore options for nuclear-powered vessels.

Zodiac said South Korean shipbuilder HD KSOE and power engineering technology group Kepco E&C are also involved in the project, which includes on research and development for ships including bulk carriers.

HD KSOE and Kepco E&C will provide designs for vessels and reactors while Lloyd’s Register will assess rule requirements for operation and regulatory compliance models. This will allow Zodiac to evaluate ship specifications and voyage considerations around nuclear technology.
