Tepco ‘Planning To Bring Forward Decision’ On Fate Of Kashiwazaki Kariwa Reactors
Kashiwazaki Kariwa is one of the world’s largest nuclear power stations.

Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) will bring forward a decision on the fate of Units 1 to 5 at its Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power station in Niigata Prefecture, western Japan, after restarting Unit 6, according to press reports in Japan.

“We will try to move forward the timing of deciding whether to decommission the plant’s No. 1 to No. 5 reactors without waiting for two years after the restart of the No. 6 reactor,” Tepco president Tomoaki Kobayakawa was cited as saying in a meeting with Masahiro Sakurai, mayor of Kashiwazaki in Niigata Prefecture.

The reported comments follow a recent decision by Tepco to remove fuel from Unit 7 at Kashiwazaki Kariwa due to delays in the reactor’s restart.
