Sweden-based small modular reactor (SMR) developer Blykalla has closed its latest funding round, raising a total of about $7.3m (€6.8m) as it seeks to industrialise its advanced liquid lead-cooled ‘Sealer’ reactor.

The company, formerly known as LeadCold, said the funding round was led by climate-centred investment funds Norrsken Launcher, Nucleation Capital, Earth Venture Capital, Farvatn and several private investors.

On its website Blykalla says it is working with global utilities and partners to deliver Sweden’s next nuclear reactor, with planned criticality by 2029.
