The results of a recent sustainable taxonomy vote in two European parliament committees are “not altogether unsurprising”, but illustrate how tight the final vote in July will be and how opinions towards nuclear in these committees are evolving “in a positive way”, Jessica Johnson, communications and EU stakeholders director at lobby group nucleareurope, said on LinkedIn.

Ms Johnson said: “As we have seen in the past, these two committees have not tended to be favourable to nuclear and gas.

“Nevertheless, what is interesting is the number of MEPs who either voted to reject the motion (62), abstained (four) or did not vote at all (six). When you add these together you see that out of a total of 148 MEPs, 76 voted to reject the CDA [complementary delegated act], but 72 did not.”
