Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) of South Korea have announced a consortium with Denmark-based Seaborg Technologies to develop floating nuclear power plants using Seaborg’s molten salt reactor technology.

The three companies said in a joint statement the power plants will be installed on barges and will deliver from 200 MW to 800 MW of generation capacity, with the first project expected to be a 200 MW power barge.

The consortium aims to commercialise and export factory-produced CMSR-based floating nuclear power plants worldwide.
