Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction of South Korea has been awarded a contract to manufacture and supply a pressuriser to for the for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (Iter) project in France.
Doosan Heavy said the contract was awarded to a consortium it formed with its UK-based subsidiary Doosan Babcock.
The company said it will design and manufacture the pressuriser, which must be capable of maintaining the pressure of the heat exchange system installed at Iter and protecting it from overpressure. It is aiming to deliver the pressuriser to the Iter site, at Cadarache in southern France, by 2022.

Iter is a joint international project, involving seven countries including South Korea, to construct and operate a facility to demonstrate the feasibility of generating large-scale nuclear fusion energy.
The €20bn project aims to create an “artificial sun” as a safe and clean future energy source using nuclear fusion, the underlying principle of the sun’s energy production, on the ground.
