Bulgaria is ready to begin construction of two new units at the Kozloduy nuclear power station with completion of the first scheduled for 2033, prime minister Nikolay Denkov told journalists on Wednesday (25 October).
Kozloduy-7 and Kozloduy-8 would be the third and fourth operational units at the Kozloduy site, on the Danube River in the northwest of the country. There are two 1,000-MW Russia-designed VVER units already in operation and four older VVER units that have been permanently shut down.
Denkov said the company responsible for Kozloduy-7, Kozloduy NPP-Newbuild, will be capitalised with an additional 500 million leva (€255m, $270m) and will begin negotiations with companies that will take part in construction of the plant.
