A single nuclear power plant of 1,200 MW would generate a total economic impact of approximately JPY4.3 trillion (€24bn, $27.1bn) across the Japanese economy over the plant’s entire lifecycle, according to estimates released by a Tokyo-based nuclear industry group.

The Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (Jaif) said during construction, a nuclear plant project would lead to employment for approximately 14,000 people per year.

Jaif said the domestic procurement level for nuclear plant equipment would be more than 90%.

It said electricity generation could be maintained for 2.9 years using nuclear fuel already held in Japan.
