Construction of a second nuclear power station in Belarus is being discussed “in the most serious way” with the two stations able to cover almost 100% of the country's energy consumption, state secretary of the Union State Gregory Rapota was reported as saying by the Ria Novosti news agency.

Belarus is in the process of completion two Russia-supplied nuclear power plants at the Belarusian nuclear station at Ostrovets, near the border with Lithuania. Earlier this month Belarus announced that Belarusian-1 had been connected to Belarus’ power grid and had started producing electricity.
