The port town of Pevek in Russia’s far east Chukotka autonomous district will switch to a district heating system powered solely by energy from the country’s first floating nuclear power plant, the Akademik Lomonosov, state-operated domestic news agency RIA Novosti reported.

The switch will take place later this year after existing thermal heating networks have been updated or replaced, RIA Novosti said.

Nuclear district heating is a system for distributing heat generated in a nuclear station through a network of insulated pipes for residential and commercial heating.
