Germany-based nuclear fusion company Gauss Fusion and the Technical University of Munich have completed a comprehensive mapping study to pinpoint where fusion power plants could be located across Europe.

The study identifies 150 industrial clusters and 900 potential sites in countries including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic, typically located in high-energy-demand industrial centres or conurbations.

Assessment was carried out against a consistent set of technical, environmental, and infrastructure criteria, including grid connectivity, access to cooling and heat recovery systems, and the ability to repurpose existing energy infrastructure.
