US technology giant Oracle plans to offtake between 125 MW and 250 MW of electricity generation from the Point Beach nuclear power station in Wisconsin to power a massive data centre development in Port Washington.

Oracle said the commitment will help shield customers from the nuclear station’s rising costs, reduce pressure on household electricity bills, and sustain reliable power for the Wisconsin grid. The commitment will save customers approximately $300m (€267m), according to Oracle.

Oracle will receive around 10%-20% of the two-unit nuclear station’s total output for the Port Washington, Wisconsin, project, a multi-billion-dollar AI and cloud computing data centre campus.
