US advanced nuclear technology company Oklo is continuing extensive pre-application work with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and has booked hundreds of hours in conversations with them as it bids to submit a combined licence application for its first Auroura reactor, a spokesperson told NucNet.

Oklo’s head of media and communications Bonita Chester said the company is in the pre-application phase with the NRC for its Aurora powerhouse and is focused on a revised licensing approach after a 2022 rejection.

The pre-application work is for the Aurora-INL, which will be built at an Idaho National Laboratory site, and covers core licensing elements including safety analysis, operational protocols and quality assurance.
